Dear Student Athletes,
The South Side Athletic Club Alumni is committed to assisting student athletes as they pursue their education while participating in sport. Last year we presented over twenty-five (25) $1,000 SSAC Alumni Scholarships to graduating student athletes. We are pleased to be able to offer a number of $1,000 scholarships again this year.
Please review the scholarship criteria carefully to ensure you are eligible. Your Athletic Coordinator will be able to assist you if you have any questions.
To qualify for the SSAC Alumni Scholarship you must:
- Permanently reside south of the North Saskatchewan River in the City of Edmonton
- Graduate from Grade 12 this June
- Attend a post-secondary educational institution located in Canada as a full-time student the following September
- Participate in a school or community or club sport during your 10th, 11th, or 12th grade
- Continue to participate in sport or maintain an active lifestyle as you continue your education
A complete application will include:
- A completed application form
- A letter of support (300 words maximum), regarding your athletic activities, from your coach
- A letter of support (300 words maximum), regarding your academic commitment, from a teacher
- A 300 word (maximum) paragraph on how sport has enriched your high school experience
Applications will be considered and the scholarships will be awarded according to:
- Your involvement and commitment to your sport
- Your involvement and commitment to your academic pursuits
- Your contributions to terms of “giving back” to your sport
- Your apparent financial need as you pursue your education
Completed applications are to be submitted to your school’s athletic coordinator by
Friday, May 1, 2026
Scholarship recipients will be contacted by their school.
A FAQ sheet is included in your application package.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to live on the south side?
Yes. You may attend a high school on the north side of the city, but your permanent residence must be south of the North Saskatchewan River to be eligible.
What post-secondary educational institutions are eligible for me to attend?
Any one of the colleges, technical institutions, or universities in Canada, where you can enroll as a full-time student, are all eligible.
Do I have to be registered as a full time student?
Yes. You must attend as a full-time student. Being registered in an Apprenticeship Program does not qualify you for this scholarship.
Do I have to play hockey for the SSAC to be eligible?
No. You are eligible if you played any sport in a recognized league during your 10th, 11th, or 12th grade. This could be at your school, in the community, or at a club.
If I have to go to summer school to graduate, am I still eligible?
No. To grant this scholarship at this time, you need to be eligible to graduate in June.
What happens if I receive a SSAC Scholarship and do not attend a post-secondary institution in the fall after high school graduation?
You will not receive the scholarship. Scholarships are presented in the fall.
Do I need to continue on in my sport while I attend a post-secondary institution?
No. While we hope you have the opportunity to continue in your sport at the post-secondary level, maintaining an active lifestyle (participating in intramurals, working out, etc.) is acceptable.
How important are my marks?
You need to have a sufficient average to obtain entrance as a full-time student into your selected post-secondary educational institution in September. The SSAC Alumni Scholarship is not an academic scholarship based solely on your marks. What is important is your commitment to obtain the best marks of which you are capable.
What is meant by my contributions in terms of “giving back to my sport?”
Did you help out by officiating, organizing activities, time-keeping?
Did you fund raise?
Did you coach or assist coaches with younger athletes?
Did you do anything that made your sport a good place to be for other athletes?
What happens to my completed application?
Once you give the completed form, the two letters, and your one-page essay to your athletics’ coordinator, your school will forward them to the selection committee of the SSAC Alumni. The decision reached by the committee will be final and your school will contact the scholarship recipients.
