Whether you are new to South Side or returning for another season, this page provides an overview of what players and families can expect when registering with the South Side Athletic Club (SSAC).
SSAC is committed to providing a high-quality, competitive hockey experience that supports player development both on and off the ice. Our programs operate in accordance with Hockey Edmonton, Hockey Alberta and Hockey Canada regulations, as well as SSAC policies and competitive standards.
Registration requirements, team structures, fees and program details may change from season to season based on league requirements, ice allocation, operating costs and other factors. The information provided here is intended as a general guide. Current season registration information and Club policies will take precedence where changes occur.
SSAC operates with the goal of maintaining a balanced annual budget while providing players with a comprehensive development and competitive hockey experience.
Specific fees and program inclusions may vary by age category and level. Current season fees will be communicated as part of the registration process.
Player registration fees support the core costs of operating our teams and Club programming, including:
Each SSAC player receives a Club apparel and equipment package as part of their registration. The package includes:
Players are responsible for providing all other required personal protective and playing equipment.
Additional SSAC apparel will be available for optional purchase through the SSAC store open during the season.
SSAC is a volunteer-led organization, and the involvement of our families is an important part of delivering a strong Club experience. Parents and guardians are expected to contribute volunteer time throughout the season as required. Specific volunteer opportunities will be communicated once selected on a team at the teams parent orientation.
Team Managers play an important role in supporting coaches, players and families throughout the season. Parents or guardians interested in serving as a Team Manager are encouraged to express their interest during the tryout period. Once teams are formed, managers receive information and guidance from the Club regarding their responsibilities, processes and expectations. An interim manager may be appointed during tryouts or team formation where required.
Player registration fees cover the core costs of participating in the SSAC program. Teams are responsible for covering expenses beyond the club-assigned schedule, for tournaments, extra ice time, team events, snacks and meals. Fundraising is expected to help offset these costs.
For U13 – U18 teams, the club has included a tournament team contribution in player fees. This per player portion will be deposited into the team account to help fund 1 tournament and alleviate the need for early fundraising. If needed, cash calls may be initiated and are capped at $300/month, up to a $1,500 seasonal maximum.
Team expenses may include:
Additional expenses are managed through the individual team budget and communicated to families by the Team Manager. Team budgets and expenditures must follow SSAC policies and approval requirements.
Families are encouraged to review the current season's registration information, tryout details and Club policies before registering.
